The Labour Department
The labour department is responsible for ensuring that there is harmony in the transport industry by performing the following functions:
1) Dispute resolution through conciliation, arbitration and mediation .
2) Labour inspections -this is done to check compliance with CBA and Labour Act provisions.The Designated Agent makes physical visits on enterprises and inspects/ examines employment books, records and premises.
3) Advise and assist both employers and employees in relation to their employment rights ;obligations or interests
4) Investigate complaints from both employers and employees.
5) Investigate and report on applications for deregistration,
exemption, retrenchment or short time work.
6) Assist employees in formation of worker’s committees
7) Collect council levies and subscriptions from the Industry (Levy Collection)
